Nonsmooth Dynamics of Contacting Thermoelastic Bodies

Autor: Jan Awrejcewicz
T Bear
Yuriy Pyr'yev
Yuriy Pyryev
Data wydania: 2009
In this work, methods of analysis and models of contacting systems dynamics, including heat generation and wear exhibited by such systems, are presented. It should be emphasised that the methods and mathematical models of contacting systems exhibited by rigid/elastic bodies and heat/wear processes have been so far applied separately. Tribological processes occurring on a contact surface were not taken into consideration in the analysis of the dynamic rigid or elastic body models. On the other hand, most of the introduced models of bodies in contact that took tribological e?ects into consideration did not allow for their inertia analysis. This study contributes to the development of this ?eld, as the models presented here yield prediction of the behaviour of contacting

Note on Inheritance & Generalizability

Autor: Iraj Sadegh Amiri
Data wydania: 2016
This research consists of two parts. The first part focuses on the development of the proposition that if there exists a type of function, then there exists a functional with the same type based on the proposition of the Inheritance and Generalizability properties of the function in a functional. This study presents the abstract convex, increasing positively homogeneous and convex-along-rays functionals via this proposition. The second part is on the investigation of the global search optimization algorithm use called the Cutting Angle Method (CAM) on Optimal Control Problems (OCP). Many algorithms are available for solving OCP, but they are basically local search algorithms. To overcome the problem associated with local searches, most OCP are modelled as Linear

Statistics for Business & Economics

Autor: George Benson
James McClave
Terry Sincich
Data wydania: 2004
For a one- or two-term course in business statistics. Designed for students with a background in basic algebra, this best-selling introduction to business statistics emphasizes inference; data collection and analysis are covered extensively, as needed, to evaluate the reported results of statistical studies and to make good business decisions. The authors stress the development of statistical thinking-the assessment of credibility and value of the inferences made from data-both by those who consume and those who produce the information. Numerous case studies, examples, and exercises all draw on real business situations and recent economic events.

Numerical Solutions of Partial Differential Equations

Autor: Chi-Wang Shu
Giovanni Russo
Silvia Bertoluzza
Silvia Falletta
Data wydania: 2008
This volume offers researchers the opportunity to catch up with important developments in the field of numerical analysis and scientific computing and to get in touch with state-of-the-art numerical techniques. The book has three parts. The first one is devoted to the use of wavelets to derive some new approaches in the numerical solution of PDEs, showing in particular how the possibility of writing equivalent norms for the scale of Besov spaces allows to develop some new methods. The second part provides an overview of the modern finite-volume and finite-difference shock-capturing schemes for systems of conservation and balance laws, with emphasis on providing a unified view of such schemes by identifying the essential aspects of their construction. In the last part a

Simple Lie Algebras Over Fields of Positive Characteristic Vol.1: Structure Theory

Autor: Helmut Strade
Data wydania: 2017
The problem of classifying the finite dimensional simple Lie algebras over fields of characteristic p > 0 is a long-standing one. Work on this question has been directed by the Kostrikin-Shafarevich Conjecture of 1966, which states that over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p > 5 a finite dimensional restricted simple Lie algebra is classical or of Cartan type. This conjecture was proved for p > 7 by Block and Wilson in 1988. The generalization of the Kostrikin-Shafarevich Conjecture for the general case of not necessarily restricted Lie algebras and p > 7 was announced in 1991 by Strade and Wilson and eventually proved by Strade in 1998. The final Block-Wilson-Strade-Premet Classification Theorem is a landmark result of modern mathematics and can be

Spectral Theory of Dynamical Systems

Autor: M. G. Nadkarni
Mahendra Nadkarni
Data wydania: 2020
This book discusses basic topics in the spectral theory of dynamical systems. It also includes two advanced theorems, one by H. Helson and W. Parry, and another by B. Host.  Moreover, Ornstein's family of mixing rank-one automorphisms is given with construction and proof. Systems of imprimitivity and their relevance to ergodic theory are also examined. Baire category theorems of ergodic theory, scattered in literature, are discussed in a unified way in the book. Riesz products are introduced and applied to describe the spectral types and eigenvalues of rank-one automorphisms. Lastly, the second edition includes a new chapter "Calculus of Generalized Riesz Products", which discusses the recent work connecting generalized Riesz products, Hardy classes,  Banach's problem

Data wydania: 2018
This is the first book on the subject of the periodic unfolding method (originally called "éclatement périodique" in French), which was originally developed to clarify and simplify many questions arising in the homogenization of PDE's. It has since led to the solution of some open problems.  Written by the three mathematicians who developed the method, the book presents both the theory as well as numerous examples of applications for partial differential problems with rapidly oscillating coefficients: in fixed domains (Part I), in periodically perforated domains (Part II), and in domains with small holes generating a strange term (Part IV).  The method applies to the case of multiple microscopic scales (with finitely many distinct scales) which is connected to
